This report provides a jurisdictional analysis of the results from the 2021 National Community Attitudes towards Violence against Women Survey (NCAS).
The National Community Attitudes towards Violence against Women Survey (NCAS) is a periodic, representative survey of the Australian population that is conducted every four years. The NCAS measures the Australian community’s understanding and attitudes regarding violence against women, their attitudes towards gender inequality and their intentions to intervene when witnessing violence or disrespect against women. The NCAS functions as a gauge for Australia’s progress toward changing the broader climate that facilitates and maintains violence against women.
Attitudes Matter: The 2021 National Community Attitudes towards Violence against Women Survey (NCAS), Findings for Australian States and Territories:
- benchmarks, as at 2021, each jurisdiction’s understanding and attitudes regarding violence against women, attitudes towards gender inequality and intention to intervene when witnessing abuse or disrespect of women
- compares each jurisdiction’s understanding and attitudes in 2021 to Australia as a whole
- determines if each jurisdiction’s understanding and attitudes have improved since the 2017 NCAS.
