NCAS Mistrust Survey
Results for young people in the 2017 National Community Attitudes towards Violence against Women Survey (NCAS) showed that a majority of young people aged 16-24 years support gender equality and reject attitudes that condone violence against women.
However, the results revealed a concerning decline in levels of understanding about domestic violence among young Australians compared to 2013, and in comparison to Australians aged 25–65 years. This qualitative study explores young people’s understandings of violence within intimate relationships. Particularly, it examines whether toxic and abusive relationship behaviours are considered part of ‘normal’ relationship dynamics and conflict.
