Reshaping the Australian judiciary's understanding of intimate partner violence

Project summary - RP.17.10

This project aims to develop a basis for alternative judicial reasoning in the High Court in a test case concerning intimate partner violence. Using Western Australia v Liyanage (2016) WASC 12 as a test case, a synthesis of research about intimate partner violence as coercive control and as a form of social entrapment will be organised into legal arguments about the law of self-defence.
