Violence against women and children affects everybody. It impacts on the health, wellbeing and safety of a significant proportion of Australians throughout all states and territories and places an enormous burden on the nation’s economy across family and community services, health and hospitals, income-support and criminal justice systems.

FACT SHEET

Evaluation of the Respect@Work Council: Key findings

This resource summarises key findings from the evaluation of the Respect@Work Council (“the Council”). It provides learnings for organisations who are seeking to establish or improve collaborative governance mechanisms to better prevent and respond to workplace sexual harassment.

In response to recommendations from the Respect@Work: National Inquiry into Sexual Harassment in Australian Workplaces report, the Australian Government established the Council to improve coordination, consistency and clarity across key legal and regulatory frameworks in order to improve prevention of, and responses to, sexual harassment in the workplace.

In February 2022, ANROWS was funded by the Department of Social Services under the 2021–2024 ANROWS Sexual Harassment Research Program to conduct an evaluation of the Council.

This document summarises learnings from the evaluation of the Respect@Work Council including:

  • the key achievements of the Council
  • enablers to success
  • challenges experienced
  • implications for cross-sector collaboration in workplace sexual harassment reform.

The findings highlight the importance of a joined-up, cross-sector approach to preventing and improving responses to workplace sexual harassment.
