Frequently asked questions (FAQs) for applicants

ANROWS’s most recent grants round closed in February 2024 and focused on the ANRA research priority “People who use domestic, family and sexual violence”. We will announce the successful recipients of this round in May 2024.

Australian competitive grants

Are ANROWS’s grants rounds classified as Category 1 funding under the Higher Education Research Data Collection (HERDC) specifications?

Yes, ANROWS grants rounds meet the criteria for a Category 1—Australian Competitive Grant.

Multiple applications

Can I apply for multiple projects?

Yes. However, researchers may only be listed as the Principal Chief Investigator on one project. There is no limit to the number of applications on which researchers can be listed as a Chief Investigator.

International research partners

Can non-Australian-based researchers and organisations be research partners?

Yes. Non-Australian-based researchers can be involved in projects as research partners or in an advisory capacity. However, only Australian-based institutions or organisations can submit applications as the lead organisation. Research sites for projects must be based within Australia.

Budget

Is there a maximum or minimum amount that individual projects can apply for?

No. There is no set minimum or maximum amount for which grant applicants can apply. The scope and scale of projects, and therefore methodology and budgets, will reflect the aims of the program (to inform policy and systems-wide practice design, nationally) and feasibility within the timeframe.

Timeframes

When will successful applicants be announced?

The timing for peer assessment and contract negotiations will vary depending on the number and quality of applications received.
