The practice of partner contact and prioritising women’s safety in domestic violence perpetrator interventions.

When working with men who use violence, the safety of women and children is paramount. Because of this, partner contact is a key component of practice for programs with men who use violence. Partner contact involves working with the current and/or former partner(s) of the perpetrator who is undertaking the program to provide support, information and safety planning. However, the practice of partner contact varies across services.

The webinar will draw on new ANROWS research, Prioritising women’s safety in Australian perpetrator interventions: The purpose and practice of partner contact to be published on April 21st 2020. This expert panel of researchers and practitioners will discuss:

• how practitioners and services practice partner contact
• the  strengths and challenges of partner contact practice
• key recommendations of the research
• the reflective practice guide to strengthen individual and organisational practice of partner contact.

There will also be a live Q&A.

This webinar is designed for:

• those who work in men’s behaviour change programs, or other services that work with men who use violence
• practitioners and policymakers working within domestic and family violence services

Professor Donna Chung
Curtin University

Donna Chung is Professor of Social Work and Social Policy at Curtin University. Donna has been involved in social work education and social research for over 20 years undertaking various teaching, research and management roles within higher education. Donna previously held the positions at the University of Western Australia, the University of Warwick and the University of South Australia. Her research interests are primarily the areas of male violence against women, homelessness, gender and sexuality and social policy. Donna has worked on various research projects in these areas and provides advice and consultancy to governments on policies and programs in these areas.  Donna has lead the ANROWS research ‘Prioritising women’s safety in Australian perpetrator interventions: The purpose and practice of partner contact’, and has also has an upcoming project on accountability.

Damian Green
CEO, Stopping Family Violence

As CEO of Stopping Family Violence (SFV), Damian Green is a passionate advocator and researcher of Family and Domestic Violence interventions, with 15 years’ experience in the sector. Through his work at SFV, and previous role as a Research Associate at Curtin University, Damian has been involved in numerous research projects exploring, family violence, intervention programs and parenting. Damian is an APHRA registered psychologist and supervisor and an experienced group work facilitator and trainer in the areas of violent offending, working with men, parenting and MBCPs. In addition, Damian is the Chairperson of Starick Services, a specialist family and domestic violence service supporting women and children.

Rod West
Executive Manager, Centrecare

Rod West is a qualified Social Worker who joined Centrecare Inc. in 2006 after previously practising at the Department of Communities, Department of Health and Department of Corrective Services. Rod has been an Executive Manager with Centrecare since 2010 during this time have been responsible for a diverse range of social services including family and domestic violence programs for men, women and children, parenting support, youth outreach programs, housing and accommodation support, problem gambling counselling, and family dispute resolution. Rod is an Vice Chair of the Zonta House Women’s Refuge Board, Chair for WA Family Pathways Network Steering Committee and National Association for Gambling Studies Committee Member.

Michele Robinson
Director Evidence to Action, ANROWS

Michele joined ANROWS in 2017 as the Director, Evidence to Action.  Michele leads the translation and dissemination of research at ANROWS to support the take-up of evidence into policy and practice, to reduce violence against women and their children. This role builds on Michele’s 18 years of experience in leadership roles developing advice and strategies on research, knowledge partnerships and exchange in a diverse range of sectors, including the prevention of violence against women and their children.
