WITH Study Exhibition Launch

Australia’s National Research Organisation for Women’s Safety (ANROWS), The University of Melbourne  and The Royal Women’s Hospital, Melbourne, invite you to the launch of a digital story-telling exhibition, an element of ANROWS funded research, “Women’s Input into a Trauma-informed systems model of care in Health settings (the WITH Study)”.

The aim of the WITH Study, led by Professor Kelsey Hegarty, University of Melbourne, is to understand how to promote and embed a trauma-informed systems model of care, responsive to women and practitioners, into the complex system of mental health and sexual violence services.

The exhibition explores the challenges and impact of trauma-informed care by presenting the voices of women who have experienced mental health problems and sexual violence, alongside those of staff and practitioners working in services that respond to their needs. The exhibition articulates how new interventions, strategies, or work practices have the potential to change systems and processes, leading to better outcomes and holistic care for women who have experienced both mental health problems and sexual violence.

The exhibition will be hopeful, honest and challenging and will validate the women and staff who have participated in the research and promote a sense of optimism about changing systems to be more responsive to trauma. It will inspire collective responsibility and confidence that change and recovery from trauma are possible.

The exhibition comprises photographic images specifically created in response to the WITH study research and findings; together with text that includes direct quotes from WITH study participants, integrated with findings and recommendations from the study. It will also present four digital stories created by women to tell their personal stories and reflections about their mental health problems and experiences of sexual violence in a creative and individual way.
