These Fast Facts provide a brief outline of current statistics on interpersonal violence for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The statistical over-representation of Indigenous people who experience violence as victims or offenders has been linked to the impacts of colonisation.
In the case of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, it is the intersection of gender and racial inequality that creates the conditions for such high rates of violence against them.
