Heather Nancarrow, Chief Executive Officer at Australia’s National Research Organisation for Women’s Safety (ANROWS), will participate in a Queensland taskforce reviewing the state’s response to domestic and family violence.

The taskforce was launched in Brisbane this morning by the Premier of Queensland, the Honourable Campbell Newman MP. It will be chaired by the Honourable Quentin Bryce AD CVO, former Governor-General of Australia.

Ms Nancarrow said the taskforce will strengthen Queensland’s efforts under the Second Action Plan of the National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children 2010-2022.

“It is everybody’s responsibility to end domestic, family and sexual violence,” she said.

“A bi-partisan approach is critical to building an effective strategy for freedom from violence in Queensland.”

“I’m pleased to support Queensland’s Special Taskforce on behalf of ANROWS. I look forward to contributing evidence and analysis on what works for whom.”

Dame Quentin and Ms Nancarrow will be joined by the following members to form the taskforce:

•    Ms Ada Panawya Woolla, Aurukun Local Commissioner, Family Responsibilities Commission 
•    Ms Anne Cross, CEO, UnitingCare Queensland
•    Mrs Desley Scott MP, Member for Woodridge 
•    Mrs Liz Cunningham MP, Independent Member for Gladstone
•    Mr Ian Kaye MP, Member for Greenslopes
•    Ms Kerry Millard MP, Member for Sandgate.

ANROWS is a national research organisation funded jointly by the Commonwealth, state and territory governments to undertake research that will guide policy and practice aimed at addressing the high rates of domestic, family and sexual violence against women and their children.
