Our research

Violence against women and children affects everybody. It impacts on the health, wellbeing and safety of a significant proportion of Australians throughout all states and territories and places an enormous burden on the nation’s economy across family and community services, health and hospitals, income-support and criminal justice systems.

Funding round open – Research Research Priorities 2017-19

Tuesday, 13th December 2016

On 19 December 2016, ANROWS opened its grants round seeking research applications in a range of priority areas aimed at stemming the rate of violence against women.

Building on the success and impact of the 2014-16 Research Priorities, this new funding opportunity promotes innovation by providing greater flexibility in research methodology and allowing researchers to apply for more than one topic with a single application.

The grants round involves a competitive, merit-based selection process which is open to any Australian-based organisation and is listed on the Australian Competitive Grants Register (Category 1 status). ANROWS is looking forward to receiving many high quality applicants from a range of research and service organisations.

Research Priorities 2017-19 has a focus on intersectionality and all funded projects are to include attention to populations disproportionaltely affected by violence against women. Support for early career researchers and service provider led research is also central to the round, with specific streams for these two groups of applicants. ANROWS strongly encourages applications with partnerships between research and service provider organisations.

ANROWS will work to ensure a robust program with a balance between small, medium and large sized projects.

Dr Mayet Costello, Director Research said:

“This is an exciting time in the violence against women research space. We have seen increased attention to the area over the last few years and now is a great opportunity to consolidate what we know and explore questions related to the most complex aspects of reducing violence against women”.

The round closes 5pm AEDT 31 March 2017.
