About the Conference

Families Australia, supported by the Australian Government Department of Social Services, invites you to the 5th annual Child Aware Approaches Conference (CAA 2017), at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, 15 – 16 May 2017. Families Australia is proud to partner with Griffith University, as the exclusive Research Partner for the 2017 Child Aware Approaches Conference.

Aim

The two day national conference, Child Aware Approaches: Driving national action on child safety and wellbeing, aims to advance the goals of the National Framework for Protecting Australia’s Children 2009 – 2020, the National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children 2010 – 2022, and advance the wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We will do this by encouraging thought leaders to stimulate discussion on how to make Australia an even better place for children and young people.

Who should attend?

CAA 2017 will be of interest to people eager to help shape future directions of national policy and action on child safety and wellbeing including international and Australian policymakers, researchers, academics, service delivery leaders and practitioners, and students.

Themes

The conference provides an opportunity to be ‘propositional,’ to share your thoughts about new and improved national policy. Speakers and authors will be encouraged to frame their presentations in ways that encourage policy discussion and analysis, showcase promising and innovative practice, and help to chart directions in three key areas:

  1. Advancing children’s development and wellbeing in the first 1000 days.
  2. Supporting young people in out-of-home care to flourish in adulthood.
  3. Building child safe organisations and environments.

Anticipated CAA 2017 outcomes

The CAA 2017 program will contribute to enhancing our knowledge and capacities to engage with the national policy agenda for children and young people’s safety and wellbeing. The program will be devised to help unpack and explore new and improved national policy ideas and solutions to complex issues affecting children, young people and their families.

Delegates should expect to develop a deeper understanding of the approaches needed to promote the importance of working together to prevent harm to children.

Please join us for this informative and practical event where networking and sharing of best practice will provide delegates with an opportunity to be connected and inspired. With a Monday/Tuesday program, you can easily arrive on the weekend before the conference to make the most of Brisbane’s sublime autumn weather.
